Trailer Idea Brainstorm!

Once all the research was done I moved onto to think about what my trailer is going to be about. This meant that I had to come up with ideas which would represent what movie I was going to do, to do so I just thought about what kind of story I could come up with. These are my ideas.

  1. Horror at the 14th House - Based on a story that I started to write. A girl named Amy gets sent home from sixth form because someone had rung from her house, when she arrived she noticed the door was open. As she walked in she fell and found out she slipped on a puddle of blood and then heard a noise coming from the living room noticing a shadowy figure walk by. I followed were the blood was coming from and found a tape in the cupboard which said play me, she went to the video player played the video and noticed that her family had been kidnapped and then heard a ticking from behind the TV, she ran out of the house and it exploded and she fell to the floor blacked out and the last thing she sees is the shadowy figure pick her up and carry her away.
  2. The Change - A group of teenagers who were all born on the same date were all hanging out at an empty house when they are all called away to their homes. When they arrived home they had noticed their parents had something to tell them, as they talked their parents they didn't believe that they had curse placed on them at birth and that very night at midnight on the full moon they all screamed as they were all changing. They work up the next morning and noticed that all had something different about them, one could read thoughts, one could move at the speed of light, one could control the people around them, one could swap voices with anyone and the other one had a very special gift which was they could control all of the groups gifts which turned them evil.
  3. Dream War - Six friends have a sleepover and during the sleepover they talk about the fears they have and why they have that fear, one of them gets the idea that they should recite a poem that was written about dreams and fears. They all read the poem and then they started to fall asleep, within each of their dreams they are in separate locations but can all still hear each other and though out their dreams they notice that their fears have become real and if anything happened in the dream then it would happen to them in real life. With each one having to face their own fears they have until midnight to fight their fears otherwise they would be stuck in their dreams with their fear until the poem is recited again.
  4. Love Story - Amelia, a young adult, dreams of the guy she knows is her soul mate and in doing so wakes up to find out she is late for her train to Thetford. When she arrives at the train station she notices that there are only five people at the bus station and when she turned around she noticed they were after her and started to attack her before she got on, she than ran to a clearing and started to fight back when someone attacks one of the attackers and when she looked closer she noticed it was the guy from her dreams. As the fight finished the dream guy grabbed her by the hand and ran with her she released that the guy was someone she met a long time ago and as they continue running he tells her that she is endanger and must stay with him to protect her and she agrees. From then one they fight many battles and start to fall in love ending in a big fight which left her injured and ends with them running away from the action.
  5. Fairy Tale Mix-Up - In the modern day versions of the classic fairy tales such as Red Riding Hood and Cinderella the town of fairy tales find out that all the tales that are being told are getting mixed up, as the narrator reads a book each fairy tale character swaps places and each story is being changed and rewritten. None of the characters understand what is going so a group of the main characters from a couple of the fairy tales decide to band together to fix what is happening, along their journey the narrator continues on reading and with that came problems along on the journey as every so often some of the characters would disappear and appear in a different story. The journey presents troubles what also presents lessons to be learned as the group walk though each story to reach the narrator and the other side of the town.
  6. School Lock-down - One night a group of students were studying in the school library when all of a sudden they hear all the locks in the school begin to lock and run to each door to try and open them, without success decided to wonder around the school to try and find out a way to unlock the doors. As they wonder though the school they start to see and hear things that no-one has ever seen during the day, they begin to notice some doors begin to unlock and within each one contains a secret that has yet to be discovered. As the night goes on they decide to split into pairs and try to find a way out, along the way they come across doors that would open and with that came more secrets but not just about them but also about the town, the school, the teachers and their families.
  7. The Singing Sin - As the town wake up they think everything is normal but when six teenagers wake up they know that something is going on. When the five teenagers go about their lives they notice that people are singing around them miming to songs that represent how they are feeling, this soon effects the teenagers as they go on with their lives which includes break ups and also their thoughts being projected though them singing a song that represents how they feel at that time and mimes to that song by that artist. Soon they start to think if this is a good or a bad thing to happen and with that they decided to work it out by looking though the town to find out what is going on them around them, with musical numbers going on during their journey not just from them but from the people around them.
  8. Movie Madness - One day whilst everyone was at home watching their favorite movies a sentence is whispered though out each person shown and soon they become the characters from the movie they are watching. With everyone a character from what they are watching the school becomes a movie itself with a group of students start to recite lines from that movie and soon the other characters begin to connect to other characters making their lives become less normal and more of a movie making harder for people to go back to the way they were. So the group decide to go along with it when they start to remember who they once were, but will the movie characters make them forget again or will they actually remember who they actually were.
  9. Breakthrough - Sam, a young male artist becomes the worlds most famous singer and soon feels alone and wants someone to be his duet partner. One day he is practicing in his studio when he hears a girl singing in another room, but by the time he got their she was gone and to find her he set a message to his fans that he is looking for the girl with the mystic voice. As all the girls turn up he starts to think that he will never find so decides to go for a walk, when walking he notices a girl across the street in a house singing and he knew it was her so he went to find her and when he got their she was gone again. When he was about to leave she turned up behind him and told him to keep quiet and then the door was kicked in and their were men attacking her and he noticed that she was doing amazing and then realized that was the girl and then she tells him to run. Will he ever meet her again or will she just never turn up, as these thoughts ran though his head he decided to keep looking for her.
  10. Secrets Of The Heart - Amy, a 18 year old girl decided to join the secret service and when she joined she had a chip placed in her neck which removed all emotions and made her combat skills more intense. When she finally escapes from the secret service, her and Michael move to Thetford and when there goes undercover at the local sixth form but still goes out and fights the secret service when they find her. One day she bumps into a boy and feels a connection and one night when she is fighting one of the secret service men, Sam saw her fall to the ground and when she noticed the badge she knew she had to leave. The next day she was training and practicing to fight Sam and with tears rolling down her face she didn't know if she loved him or not, that night she went out to find him and found out he was waiting for her so he could explain but instead she attacks him and then they fight. When he falls to the ground she goes to kill him but then runs off and he catches up to her and hugs her and then they are attacked by the secret service men and decides to run. Will they always be endanger or will they actually lead a normal life.
In the end I decided to go for idea 10 because I felt that it was the better one to do and also appealed to me more. However it was also the one I knew I could do with what I have to work with, I also liked it because I felt that it would be a good trailer to do and appeal to who my target audience.

  1. Empire
  2. Entertainment Weekly
  3. Total Film
  4. Film Review
I looked at all of the information that is presented on the magazine covers and around the cover I wrote what I saw on the magazine and then later analysed it a bit more. After looking at the covers I wrote about each one in more depth so I could understand the movie magazine covers more. I started by annotating Empire

After annotating each cover I decided to write about each one so that I could understand the magazine covers a little bit more and it's appeal to an audience. The questions I answered were:
  1. What are the most common elements of the magazine covers? Why are these elements important?
  2. Which magazine cover is best at catching attention of potential readers? Why?
  3. Is there anything missing from any of the magazine covers? Do you think there is a reason for any missing items?
  4. Do the magazine covers offer any information that is not related to the film it is promoting? What is the other information and why is it necessary?
  5. Can any of the magazine covers help you design your own magazine cover? Which one and why?
To make sure that each cover is analysed I changed the colour of the text so it shows the different covers and that represent that cover.
  1. What are the most common elements of the magazine covers? Why are these elements important?
The most common elements of Empire is the title of the article, a medium close up of the actor of the main article and the article title. These are important because it then aims at a specific audience for that article and bring in more people to that magazine and film.
The most common elements of Entertainment Weekly is the title of the article, a medium long shot of the actors in the main article and the information for other articles. These are important because they want people to concentrate on the main article.
The most common elements of Total Film is the colour of the text, the sub article information and the sub-heading. These are important because it has to link to the main article to draw in people to the magazine.
The most common elements of Film Review is the advertisement for the main article, the sub-heading for the article and the image of the actor in the main article. These are important because they want to publicise both their magazine and the actors in the main articles.
Overall the most common elements in a magazine cover are:
  • Title of Article
  • The Main Image
  • The Other Information on the Article
  • The Other Articles Related to Main Article
  • The Adverts
  • The Sub-Heading of the Main Article
These are important because if it was just plain and simple which then makes it less interesting to others.
2. Which magazine cover is best at catching attention of potential readers?
Total Film is best at catching attention of potential readers. This because the colour and layout of the text connect with the film. The title of the magazine also relates to the film. Finally the information of the article makes a reference to the film.
3. Is there anything missing from any of the magazine covers? Do you think there is a reason for any missing items.
I think there is nothing wrong or missing from Empire magazine. It gives the information correctly and in simple yet dramatic way.
I think the thing missing from Entertainment Weekly is the barcode. i think they just wanted people to concentrate on the article and image.
I think there is nothing missing from Total Film magazine. It includes all the information needed and it connects to the film article they are doing.
I think there is nothing missing from Film Review magazine. It gives the information correctly, includes everything a magazine needs and yet the text is simple it still looks good.
4. Do the magazine covers offer any information that is not related to the film it is promoting? What is the other information and why it's necessary?
Empire is promoting 'The Avengers' and it offers information on other films. The other information is bond Skyfall, and other action type films (Titans, Hunger Games, Bourne, Stifler). It's necessary as they want to advertise films that are similar and that are from other companies similar to Marvel.
Entertainment Weekly is promoting 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' it offers other information. The other information that are released next year, it's necessary because it needs other articles for the magazine.
Total Film is promoting 'Inception' and it offers other information. The other information is a different genres of film (Toy Story 3, Predator). It's necessary because then it can appeal to others than just one person.
Film Review is promoting 'Sean Connery' and it does not offer other information. It only offers about Lord of the Rings and the rest is about Sean Connery, it's necessary because it's called 'Sean Connery Special'. Which means other information not to do with Sean Connery is not important.
5. Can any of the magazine covers help you design your own magazine cover? Which one and why?
I think that Empire magazine covers could help me design my own magazine cover. This is because all through it's simple it is effective and also focuses on the film. I also think that it look really good an puts more focus on the image.

After annotating and going through it more in depth I found out that the important things for a magazine cover includes:
  • A Big Main Image
  • A Couple of Small Articles
  • A Big Article Title
  • A Website for the Magazine
  • A Sub-Heading Underneath The Big Title
  • A Date, Price and other Information
