- Ace Ventura Pet Detective (My Chosen Trailer)
- Despicable Me 2
- The Kings Speech
- The Avengers
- Hunger Games: Catching Fire
- What draws in the audience most?
- What is the most effective aspect of the trailer?
- What is the least effective aspect of the trailer?
- In what ways does the trailer introduce the film and it's genre?
- If you didn't like anything what would you change and why?
I think that the part that draws in the audience the most is Jim Carrey's character, Ace Ventura. The reason for this is that his character acts really crazy which then brings in that comedic element that Jim Carrey brings to his characters which then draws the audience in, it is what draw me in to watch the film.
The most effective aspect of the trailer is the music behind the trailer. The reason for this is that because it sounds like a spy movie but is then demolished when the comedy kicks in on the trailer from all the characters which then makes it more entertaining.
The least effective aspect of the trailer is the style of the text at the beginning. The reason for this is that because it seems lifeless and doesn't show that this could be a comedic film and is also just a plain colour which is different to the title on the DVD cover which looks much better.
The ways the trailer introduces the film is by using famous action stars at the beginning and then moves onto Ace who is not exactly in the right frame of mind compared to the famous action characters given. It then goes onto to show more of his madness and and the way he acts around other character and also his one liners which are funny and also go with the genre of the film.
I liked everything about the trailer I wouldn't change a thing. The reason for this is because it didn't give to much of the movie away and also the music that accompanied the clips behind it made the film more of a comedy which is what it is suppose to be.
Despicable Me 2
- What are the key details a film trailer has?
- How is sound/music used in trailers you looked at?
- Is there any additional information given in the trailers (Websites, 3D, Facebook, Films actors have been in? ETC)?
- How is the suitable target audience shown?
- Can any of these trailer help with your own trailer? If so why?
The key details of this trailer and all other trailers is that it always introduces the main character(s) first then go into the main part which is to tell the story. It also has music which accomplices the type of story it is and what type of genre of film it is.
The sound/music used in this trailer is to give off a spy adventure type of music which goes with the plot line of the film. For other trailers it also allows people to think about the music/sound which goes with the film which draws them in to the film.
In this trailer the additional information includes the actors names and that the film is going to be in 3D. The other information is an official website for the movie and also a Facebook page for the film itself, with the company's logo next to the additional information.
The target audience for this film is for young adults/kids and family's. This is shown by the story line of Gru having a family of his own and also by giving the film a comedic element which is often aimed at young people when they watch an animated feature film.
This trailer can help me a bit with my trailer as I need to find the right music for my trailer which would show my target audience but also show what genre of film it is. This is because the music shows the genre of the film and also goes with the style of the plot line.
The Kings Speech
- How does the trailer tell the story of the film?
- How do the creative aspects of the trailer enhance it?
- What are the conventions used in the trailer?
- Were you able to interpret the films genre from the trailer? And how?
- How is sound used in the trailer?
The trailer tells the story by using music. The music sets the story up as to be an emotional journey for the main character as it goes with the dramatic scenes but also adds a bit of a comedic part to the story with the way it changes near the end as he finally gets to his speech.
The creative aspects of the trailer are the use of camera shots and the use of the dramatic images between clips enhance it. The reason for this is that it suits the music that is given in the trailer and also the dark and grey images between clips with the smart text enhances the story more.
The conventions used for this trailer is music, speech and transitions. The reason for these conventions is that the music would stick in your head which then relates back to the film, the speech in the movie from all the characters are serious which enhances the story and the transitions between each shot is dramatic and also slow which shows it is going to be a heart warming story.
I was able to interpret the film's genre through out the trailer. This is done by the music in the background as it sets the scene and the genre of the movie which is a historical drama which is based on a true story.
The sound is used very dramatically in the trailer. This is done by turning down the music when there is going to be a break though in the characters life and it helps tell the story about the king which then makes it more appealing to an audience.
The Avengers
- How does this trailer represent the genre of the film?
- What is the most &least effective and why?
- What & how are camera angles used in this trailer?
- How are sounds and effects used?
- What aspects of this trailer could you take away and apply to your own? If not, why?
The trailer uses action clips and music to represent the comic book genre. This is because very comic book film always has action in them and also the music is superhero like which then interprets that it is going to be a comic book style film.
The most effective part of the trailer is the use of different action clips, this is because it doesn't give to much away but allows us to see what is going to be like. There is no least effective part of the trailer as it looks and sounds good and makes me want to watch it.
There is allot of different camera shots but mostly establishing shots and long shots. These are used to establish the style of the movie but also show all the characters in a good way which introduces them to the film audience.
The sound effects are used to create a dramatic type of atmosphere. This is used often when something is falling, being hit or is being taken into the shot by a character which then makes the scene more dramatic.
I would take away the use of how the music is stopped and played. The reason for this is that the music is always stopped at the right places and also is used effectively to produce the dramatic action that is happening in the film.
Hunger Games: Catching Fire
- What mood and atmosphere is created by the use of the music?
- What transitions were effective and why?
- How is the genre represented?
- How effective are the camera angles?
- Is a clear storyline shown throughout the trailer?
The music is slow to start but then grows into more of a dramatic victory type music. This then gives off the mood and atmosphere which of a more tense hunger games and also that the war isn't over which then gives it more of that dramatic yet emotional edge.
The effective transitions were during the end when it was about to be the start of the games also the transitions between her and her family at the beginning. This is because they are short yet dramatic shots which then adds more drama to the movie and also make fans of both the film and the book to want to see it more.
The genre is represented through the music and the way it is shown to the audience. This is because the music is the theme of the film but also gives the genre that it is going to be dramatic but also an adventure for the characters which is also shown through the clips used.
The camera angles are very effective and gives the film more of an edge. The reason for this is that the camera angles follow the characters story not just what is going in the clip and shows the right amount of the characters expressions and body movements.
The storyline is shown clearly throughout the whole trailer. This is because it shows the right amount to give a brief summary what is happening in the movie without giving to much away to the audience especially to the ones who have read the books.
